G'day members,
Thank you all for renewing your memberships. The club has had a 97% renewal rate plus additional folk joining which means the club, and the movement as a whole, are growing. The importance of this is not just that the Golden Oldies Truck Club is expanding, although that is nice, but that more old trucks are being saved from the scrappies. The high renewal rate is also a confidence boost to the committee, as it indicates that we must be doing the job to an adequate level. Remember we are all volunteers and I personally would to thank those members who held a position on the committee for the past twelve months. I would also like thank all the members who helped out whenever they were needed. A great strength of this club is the willingness of the troops to rally when times are tough and to assist not only fellow members but the community at large. Nearly $13000 was donated to charities and community groups last year, and while the GOTC is not a service club it is still something we should be proud of.
The AGM will be held on September 10th at the Girl Guides hall, Baird St West Dubbo at 2.00pm. We are again asking for nominations for committee positions (a nomination form is in this newsletter). The amendment to the constitution was passed unanimously at the special general meeting held on the 9th of July. The amended constitution has been registered with NSW Fair Trading which allows the club to form a committee as per the amendment (10 positions). The July 2011 constitution booklet will be available at the AGM, those members that are unable to attend will then receive a copy in the mail.
Well enough of the admin stuff, now some important news, the '28 Inter is getting a transporter. Work is well under way on a C1500 with a 14' tray. The truck is stripped down, rubbed down and the few rust a spots are being repaired. I can't wait to put on the glorious red (it's got to be RED). In my head the whole thing looks great with the old '28 on the back, just getting the picture out my rum soaked brain and on to road that is the hard part.
Till next time, happy rescuing, restoring and re-living

G'day members,
As you go through life you meet a lot of what I call 'artillery men', blokes who are 'gunner' do this and 'gunner' do that. We have all heard the same story "no mate, it's not for sale, that truck was my grandpa's and I'm gunner do her up one day...gunner paint her red...gunner stretch her out...gunner put a tray on her...gunner have chrome all over it...gunner be awesome...you see...". As you walk away biting your lip, knowing full well that the truck will rust away, comfort yourself with this one thought, lucky we've got some 'Doers' in the world. What's a 'Doer' ......Graham Barker is a 'Doer'. Graham doesn't talk about what he's 'gunner' do, he does the work then shows you the results, his latest triumph being the MINI MACK.
The MINI MACK, for those that haven't seen it, is a ½ scale replica of a flintstone, a true miniature in every detail. Graham took the MINI MACK to the Hunter Truck Muster at Kurri Kurri and without doubt it was one of the many highlights of the show. The truck is fully functional, having Datsun 1200 running gear, two diffs, jackshaft and camelback suspension. The bodywork is first class and true to the original in every detail, even the bulldog is genuine. The motor wasn't running properly at the show and Graham being Graham had the problem solved when I saw him a few days later, a new coil was all it needed. Not one to sit on his hands though he had the MINI MACK in pieces all over the garage floor...why..."the steering wheel was to low and the gearstick leakage needs to be shorter." Like I said Graham's a 'Doer'.
The Hunter Truck Muster was fantastic, the organizers should be proud. The weather was kind and crowd would have been impressed by the large number of trucks on display. The GOTC was well represented with a number our trucks and members making the journey to Kurri Kurri. I highly recommend this show as one not to miss.
Till next time, happy rescuing, restoring and re-living
